Have you decided to create a special place where you can entertain family members and friends on an outdoor patio? If so, here are some ideas that might inspire you to design something unique and attractive.
The Flooring - A great place to start is with your selection of floors. One idea is to have concrete which can be faux painted to look like tile, brick, flagstone or pretty much anything else your brain can envision. Another idea would be to select traditional wood, which comes in many styles and is affordable. However, if you do select wood for your patio floor, remember that over time it may warp and splinter. Also, it will need to be refinished periodically. A great alternative to wood would be to select a wood alternative like Trex. Wood alternatives are used on decks because of their affordability, and because they will last for a lot longer than real wood. The great part about choosing a wood alternative is that, besides the fact that it is attractive, it won't splinter, warp or decay like real wood does. Another real plus is that it doesn't ever require refinishing.
The Furniture - As you select your furniture, consider wrought iron, rustic wood or outdoor wicker. All of those will do well in the outdoors, especially wrought iron. In addition, they can be painted any color you choose. For example, if you are looking for a traditional look for your wicker furniture, go with white. But, if you want to add extra pizzazz to the setting, consider painting the wicker a bold color like red, turquoise or yellow. Besides outdoor sofas, chairs and occasional tables, think of adding some fun touches like bench swings and hammocks.
The Cooking - Depending on the amount of space you have and how much money you want to spend on your entertainment area, an outdoor kitchen would be great. If you have only a very limited area, even a small grill or a hibachi would be great. If you want a more extensive kitchen, consider copy-catting what you have done inside your home, if your kitchen works well for you. For extra fun, think of having a fireplace or even a small Mexican chimenea where you and your guests can roast marshmallows and hot dogs.
As you do the plans for your outdoor entertainment area, consider buying an awning so that you can use the area even during bad weather.
